Midlothian homes, old and new
Midlothian is one of the oldest places in the Richmond area. French Huguenot settlers came around 1700. Coal was dug here in the early 1700s, and the county says Midlothian produced the first commercially mined coal in America. The old village along Midlothian Turnpike still has homes and buildings from that long history.
Most of Midlothian is much newer. Swift Creek Reservoir was built in 1965, and water and sewer service brought new neighborhoods. Brandermill, on the east shore, began building in 1975. Woodlake, on the west shore, was under way by 1984. The Powhite Parkway was extended in 1988, and Route 288 was finished in 2004. Each new road brought another wave of subdivisions.
That means a Midlothian street can hold a 150-year-old farmhouse, a 1970s home near the reservoir, and a house built last year. Each one shows foundation trouble in its own way. A free visit for foundation repair in Midlothian starts by finding which kind you have.
